WOMEN’S GOLF

Anteater Invitational

DOVE CANYON — UC Irvine junior Hillary Packard finished second and led the Anteaters to a fourth-place finish at Dove Canyon Country Club Tuesday.

Packard finished at 217 (73-70-74), three shots behind Idaho’s Kayl;a Mortellaro, who shot three-under 68 Tuesday to complete the 54-hole event.

It was Packard’s best finish of the year.

As a team, UCI posted Tuesday’s best round (295). The Anteaters shot 313 in the first round and 295 in the second round.

UCI sophomore Lalita Patipaksiri was ninth with a score of 225 (79-75-71).

San Diego State won its second consecutive tournament with a three-round total of 899. The Aztecs were six shots better than San Francisco at the five-team event.

Next UC Irvine will compete at the Big West Championships, April 18-20 at the San Luis Obispo Country Club.

SOFTBALL

Doubleheader

COSTA MESA — Vanguard University’s Stacie Salazar pitched a three-hit shutout in the 2-0 opening-game win over William Jessup, but the host Lions were blanked on five hits in a 4-0 Game 2 setback in nonconference action Tuesday.

Melissa Forrester had one hit in each game for Vanguard, as both teams had just eighth its on the day.

Salazar walked two and struck out eight to improve to 4-3.

Vanguard is 21-19.

William Jessup is 19-10.

MEN’S TENNIS

UC Irvine 5, Tulane 2

IRVINE — Fabian Matthews, Steven Henderson and Stephen Stege won in singles and doubles to pace the host Anteaters in the nonconference match Tuesday.

Matthews, a Corona del Mar High product, posted a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles and teamed with Steve for an 8-4 triumph at No. 3 doubles.

UCI is 13-7.

Tulane is 3-11.

Vanguard 5, Concordia 4

COSTA MESA — Alessandro Ventre, Tino Brodar and Yahor Kryvaruchka all posted three-set singles victories to lead the host Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference match Tuesday at the Costa Mesa Tennis Center.

Vanguard improved to 10-5, 7-4 in conference.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Concordia 6, Vanguard 3

COSTA MESA — Betyel Tesfa and Anna Valingsten had straight-set singles wins for the host Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference match Tuesday at the Costa Mesa Tennis Center.

Vanguard fell to 9-6, 6-6 in conference.
