HUNTINGTON BEACH — Senior shortstop Austin Wobrock hit a two-run home run to tie the score in the sixth inning and Ryan Albert singled in the game-winner in the eighth inning of the Sunset League game Tuesday.

Albert threw 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relieve to earn the pitching victory and help the Sailors (10-1, 3-1 in league) maintain a share of the league lead heading into a showdown with highly touted Edison Thursday at Newport Harbor.

Albert came in with the bases loaded and two outs in the sixth and induced a groundout to get out of the jam. Albert is 3-0 with two saves this season.

Matt Carpenter scored the winning run after reaching on a three-base error by the right fielder.

Sailors starter Dillan Freiberg pitched four strong innings, allowing three unearned runs.

Wobrock had two hits to pace the Tars’ offense.

San Juan Hills 4

CORONA DEL MAR — Chase Carlile went two for three with four runs batted in and a double for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League game Tuesday.

Michael Borchard was three for four with an RBI and Beau Attyah was two for four with three RBIs for CdM (5-6, 3-1 in league). The Sea Kings also had Clark Cashion go two for four and Brian Hurst go two for four with an RBI. CdM pitcher Eric Morris improved to 3-0. He struck out four, walked two and scattered six hits in six innings.

The Sea Kings play host to Beckman Thursday.

Sage Hill 10,

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Jack Heffron, Sean Vogel and Darren Hardy had three hits each for the Lightning in the Academy League game Tuesday.

Heffron went three for three with a run and a run batted in. Vogel was three for four with a walk and three RBIs, while Hardy was three for four with two runs for Sage Hill (6-4, 3-1 in league).

Pitcher A.J. Wolfson struck out six and allowed three hits in six shutout innings to improve to 2-1.

Fountain Valley

NEWPORT BEACH — Jackson Carmack had 27 assists to help lead the Sailors to a 25-18, 25-12, 25-14 victory in their Sunset League opener Tuesday.

Cody Caldwell had 14 kills and Will Connelly had 11 kills for Newport Harbor (6-4, 1-0 in league). Rusty Sary had nine kills and Ian Sequeira led the Sailors with 11 digs. Max Richley had five digs and Jay Ordaz had four assists, one ace and two digs.

The Sailors play at Esperanza Thursday.

Irvine

IRVINE — Parker Brown had seven kills and seven assists to help the Sea Kings to a 25-18, 25-14, 25-14 Pacific Coast League-opening win Tuesday.

Nick Curci had 14 assists and two aces, Joey Booth had seven kills and Brandon Anderson had six kills, three digs and four aces for CdM (8-7, 1-0 in league). Joe Ctvrtlik had eight assists and two digs.

CdM was without starters Weston Nielsen and Spencer Haly because of injuries. Nielsen sustained a separated shoulder in a five-set loss at Edison Friday. Nielsen, a senior bound for UC Santa Barbara, suffered the injury in the first set, but continued to play, Sea Kings Coach Steve Conti said.

Haly has been dealing with pain in his knee.

Conti hopes to have both players back next week when CdM plays in Hawaii during spring break.

IRVINE — Mattias Russo-Larsson had 21 kills, 11 digs and two blocks for the Lightning in their 21-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-23 Academy League-opening match Tuesday.

Cole Kirby had 11 kills and freshman setter Kent Kawaguchi added 36 assists and seven kills for Sage Hill (7-8, 1-0 in league), which plays host to Oxford Academy Thursday at 5 p.m.

Bolsa Grande 0

GARDEN GROVE — Hattie Marshall was four for five with four runs batted in for the Sailors in the nonleague game that went five innings Tuesday.

Mandy Legault was two for three with a walk, as part of Newport Harbor’s 11-hit attack. She scored four runs and stole three bases.

Pitchers Alex Bauer and Lauren Gandi combined for the shutout for the Sailors (10-1). Bauer struck out two and allowed no hits in two innings. Gandi struck out two and allowed one hit in three innings.

Newport Harbor plays at Santiago today.

Costa Mesa 15,

CORONA DEL MAR — Alosina Skipps went three for three with a home run a triple and five runs batted in for the Mustangs in the nonleague game that ended after five innings Tuesday.

Sami Feinstein went three for four with two doubles for Costa Mesa.

Newport Harbor 6

ANAHEIM — No. 1 singles player Tracy Beblie won twice, 6-1, 6-0, for the Sailors in their Sunset League match Tuesday.

Beblie lost his first set to Esperanza’s No. 1 player, 6-7 (6).

The No. 1 doubles team of Craig McKennon and Greg Brostek won two sets, 6-2, 6-1 for Newport Harbor (5-4, 1-1 in league).

The Sailors play host to Los Alamitos Thursday at 3:15 p.m.

CERRITOS — Alex Koeberle won two sets, 6-2, 6-1, for the Lightning in the Academy League match Tuesday.

The No. 3 doubles team of Alex Manolakas and Kevin Marshack won twice, 6-4, 6-3 for Sage Hill (3-9, 2-1 in league).
