Gilchrist, Klippert, Money, Kent lead honors

Newport Harbor High seniors Kaleigh Gilchrist and Kate Klippert and Corona del Mar seniors Margot Money and Victoria Kent highlight four of nine local girls’ water polo players earning All-CIF Southern Section Division I laurels.

Gilchrist and Klippert led the Sailors (25-6) to the section championship game for the second time in three years. The duo helped Newport Harbor win the Sunset League title

Money and Kent helped the Sea Kings (21-9) reach at least the semifinals in Division I for the third straight season. CdM won the Pacific Coast League title.

The other players receiving recognition from Newport Harbor were senior Colleen McCall, senior Krissy Burger and junior Catherine Carpenter, and from CdM sophomore Pippa Saunders and senior Claire Eadington.

McCall and Saunders each made the second team, while Burger, Eadington and Carpenter were on the third team.

Gilchrist, who’s headed to USC, led the Sailors with 94 goals, 46 assists and also had 45 steals. Klippert, bound for UC Berkeley, finished with 57 goals, 26 assists and 43 steals.

Money had 43 goals, 42 steals and 28 assists. Kent finished with 33 goals, 26 steals and 21 assists.
