Man arrested for animal cruelty

Prosecutors have yet to charge a Newport Beach man who was arrested on suspicion of shooting a bird with a high-powered pellet gun at a local park last week.

Jennings Reveley, 75, was arrested just after noon April 2 on Balboa Boulevard when officers found the barrel of a pellet rifle sticking out from underneath a towel on the rear seat of his truck, police said. A witness had called police shortly before saying they saw Reveley take aim and fire at a crow at the 38th Street Park. When police saw the weapon and the ammo to go with it, officers arrested him on suspicion of animal cruelty, said Sgt. Steve Burdette.

Animal control found the injured crow at the park with a damaged wing and took it to a local animal shelter, Burdette said.
