Incumbent to run for second council term

City Councilman Joe Carchio has filed for reelection this year in Huntington Beach, going up against 17 challengers for four open seats in November.

Carchio, who is completing his first term on the council, filed his candidate intention statement last week. A small-business owner and former basketball and football coach at Ocean View High School, he has served as a council liaison with several community groups, including the Citizens Participation Advisory Board, Community Services Commission, Library Board and Neighborhood Watch.

Carchio is the only council member seeking reelection, as Mayor Cathy Green, Mayor Pro Tem Jill Hardy and Councilman Gil Coerper will be termed out. Candidates have until Aug. 6 to file statements of intention and may pull papers to run for council between July 12 and Aug. 6.
