Katherine Kern Stockmar

Katherine Kern Stockmar, born October 7, 1921, passed

away peacefully on April 6, 2010, surrounded by her

loving family. Daughter of Julius and Adelena Kern,

Katherine was born in Pasadena, California, and lived

in Los Angeles where she attended the University of

Southern California. It was there she met her groom-to-

be, Robert A. Stockmar. Married in January of

1942, Katherine and Robert moved to Orange, Texas to

support the war effort. After World War II, they returned

to Los Angeles where they resided until they moved

their family to Whittier, California. During those years,

Katherine was dedicated to raising her children and

was active in the Assistance League of Whittier and

the Chapter BJ of P.E.O. Moving to Newport Beach

in 1987 to be closer to their family, Katherine enjoyed

volunteering with the Cinderella Guild of Children’s

Hospital of Orange County, playing the piano, and

meeting with her close friends over bridge. Devoted

to her family, she will be remembered for her wisdom,

selflessness, positive outlook on life, generosity, sense

of humor, and her kind and gentle spirit. She will be

deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Katherine is preceded in death by her husband of

64 years, Robert A. Stockmar. She is survived by her

sister, Barbara Kern Davies; her loving daughter, Linda

(Jeff) Pierson; son, William (Anna) Stockmar; niece,

Clydea (Jim) Hastie; six grandchildren, Christopher

(Megan) Pierson, Kate (Jeffrey) Nichols, J. Scott and

Natalie Pierson; Micah and Jarret Stockmar; four

great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Emery Nichols, Elle

and Saylor Pierson.

A memorial celebration will be held Sunday, April 25,

at 3 PM in the Chapel at Mariners Church, 5001 Newport

Coast Drive, Irvine, California 92603. Remembrances
