Clark collects award

UC Irvine sophomore Carson Clark has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II National Player of the Week in men’s volleyball after leading the Anteaters to a pair of wins over nationally-ranked opponents last week.

The 6-foot-6 opposite started the week with a match-high 23 kills, 10 digs, two service aces and two blocks in an upset of then-ranked No. 8 Long Beach State. In his next match, a sweep of then-No. 14 UC San Diego, Clark drilled 17 kills, while picking up five service aces and a career-high seven blocks.

For the week, Clark hit .360 and averaged 5.71 kills, 1.57 digs, 1.29 blocks, one ace and 7.50 points per game.

This is the 16th time a UC Irvine athlete has garnered the National Player of the Week accolades and the first Anteater to garner the distinction this season.

Clark also earned Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Co-Player of the Week recognition.
