The Costa Mesa Planning Commission this week gave its Design Award and first Mesa Green Design Award to several building projects that show excellence in community planning and design.

Awards went to the Sycamore Stream Residential Homes, at 2451 through 2467 Orange Ave., and houses at 2869 Europa Drive and 1811 Gisler Ave., according to a city news release.

The houses on Europa Drive and Gisler Avenue were the first to receive the inaugural Mesa Green Award, which recognizes innovative and eco-friendly elements of design.
