Dance department performs ‘X’

The Laguna Beach High School dance department will again honor its graduating senior class with the performance “X” (“ten” for 2010) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday to April 24 at the Artists’ Theatre, 625 Park Ave.

The concert will showcase the vision of seven guest choreographers in addition to staff and students. Fifty-five dancers will perform 14 dance pieces in styles including jazz, modern, hip-hop and ballet, to a music mix ranging from Eric Clapton to Justin Timberlake to Alanis Morissette. Seniors Austin Giangeruso and Rachael MacDonald will be especially honored when their peers perform their own choreographic works.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors; $3 from each ticket will benefit the Michael J. Foxx Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Tickets are available at the box office from 4 to 6 p.m. starting Monday or (949) 497-7769.

Creatively Fun Family Day

The Sawdust Art Festival will celebrate the 25th annual Imagination Celebration and second Creatively Fun Family Day in collaboration with Arts Orange County from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday on the festival grounds, 935 Laguna Canyon Road.

The event will feature a variety of hands-on fine art and craft projects, demonstrations, information displays and entertainment, presented by various community and Sawdust artists, and local nonprofit groups.

New to this year’s event is live entertainment, which includes alternative country rock band, City Country City, 16-member band ensemble, Swing Set Too and special musical guests the Sharp Brothers.

Admission is free for children 4 and younger; $2 for children ages 5 to 13; $4 for adults; $10 for a family pack of four tickets. TLC celebrates fifth year with club

The Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach TLC Branch will host its annual Happy Birthday party and pancake breakfast from 8 to 10:30 a.m. April 24 at Bluebird Park.

The public is invited to meet the staff, member families and enjoy a breakfast by the Emerald Bay Fire Department. Children will have the opportunity to enjoy crafts, games and the bounce house, before they open presents donated by the community.

The Orange County Department of Education will host an “Inside the Outdoors Amazing Animals” exhibit.

TOW holds book fair this month

Top of the World Elementary School will host “Book Fair Diner: All you can Read!” from 7:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. April 26 to 30.

The book fair will offer specially priced books and educational products including new releases, award-winning titles, children’s classics, interactive software, adult books and current bestsellers from more than 100 publishers. Proceeds from the event will raise funds to help promote summer reading by providing a convenient and affordable environment. Families, teachers and the community are invited to attend.

A special Family Night will take place from 4:30 to 6:15 p.m. April 29, where each family will receive a certificate for one free kids meal at Ruby’s Diner with any book buying and hear a book reading by school board President Ketta Brown.

Book Fair customers may help the school build classroom libraries and improve children’s reading skills by purchasing books through the Classroom Wish List and One for Books programs.
