After reading the April 14 front-page article, “‘It Was No Concern To Me,’” I find the whole David Hunt saga to be an embarrassment to our community, and swift action needs to be taken.

First I read that he was arrested for alleged spousal abuse. This information was published in the Daily Pilot, Orange County Register and the Los Angeles Times.

Today I read of a 2006 bankruptcy Hunt filed, which the City Council effectively regards as a nonevent.

I find this unconscionable. As a corporate executive, I would have taken swift action if this crossed my desk.

Hunt is no longer able to provide legal counsel and represent our fair city in an effective manner. Let alone manage any type of financial budget.

A man of honor would resign and move on. The time for sorting through this matter is over.

A decision needs to be made to relieve the taxpayers the burden of paying for Hunt’s administrative leave, and I’m sure the resolution of his employment contract.

Let’s discuss school flight, Steve

Editor’s note: The following letter was addressed to Columnist Steve Smith:

If everything is so rosy in Costa Mesa, why do so many Mesa Verde families send their kids to Huntington Beach to go to school?

Is that enough of a “difficult issue” so we shouldn’t “dig our head in the sand”?

Why doesn’t our school district do something about it? Do they not care that all of these students have left their schools?

If there are no slums, blight or illegal immigration problems, then what’s going on with our schools?

Please, explain your theory.

By the way, if you want to be a local columnist and speak about issues like this, perhaps you should have a direct e-mail address so that people can respond directly to you.

I’ve sent lots of e-mails and left many phone messages to the Daily Pilot, and they are almost always ignored.
