COSTA MESA — Costa Mesa High senior centerfielder Jesse Fox continued his dominance against Godinez pitchers in an Orange Coast League game Friday afternoon at Costa Mesa High.

The Mustangs beat the Grizzlies, 9-4, and improved their record to 10-7, 4-2 league, while Godinez fell to 3-14, 0-6.

Fox, who is one of the Mustangs’ most consistent hitters, continued to show that he enjoys playing against the Grizzlies, as he went two for three with two home runs, including a three-run blast in the bottom of the second inning to right field. That increased the Mustangs’ lead to 8-0.

In the sixth inning, he sent the first pitch from Grizzlies senior pitcher Adrian Espinoza out of the park into right center field, a solo shot to give the home team a comfortable 9-4 lead going into the final inning.

“Working hard and addressing my team is what we try to do, I’m trying to stay focus and keep hitting the ball,” said Fox, who has hit a home run in all three games against the Grizzlies this season.

Costa Mesa senior second baseman Brian Waldron went three for three with two singles and a double. He scored twice. In the three games against the Grizzlies, Waldron is six for 13 with seven runs scored, six runs batted in and two doubles.

Fox is six for 12 with the three homers and 11 RBIs.

“Godinez played hard,” Costa Mesa Coach Jim Kiefer said. “... We expected what we saw today out of them.”

Kiefer also added the Grizzlies hung in there all seven innings.

The Mustangs have a doubleheader today at Rancho Alamitos at 11 a.m and 2 p.m.
