Mt. SAC Relays

WALNUT — UC Irvine sophomore Charles Jock won his 800-meter race in 1 minute, 48.21 seconds at Mt. San Antonio College Saturday.

Jock won the event in the Olympic Development University/Open section. Joe Abbott of Washington State was second in 1:49.12 and Wil Fitts, competing unattached, was third in 1:49.46.

This marks Jock’s third 800 win of the season in three attempts.

Also on Saturday, UCI’s Jacob Yowell finished second in the Olympic Development University/Open 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.65. Weber State’s Tyler McBee was first in 52 seconds.

SOFTBALL

Doubleheader

FULLERTON — Vanguard University’s junior catcher Angela St. Croix proved key in leading the Lions to 5-3 and 7-3 Golden State Athletic Conference wins at Hope International Saturday.

She provided a two-run single in the seventh inning, as Vanguard (29-21, 8-12 in conference) scored three runs to rally for the 5-3 win in the first game. Freshman shortstop Kimberly Skoglund was two for four with a run batted in.

St. Croix went two for four with two runs in the second game, while junior outfielder Amanda Young was one for two with two RBIs and two runs. Sophomore pitcher Stacie Salazar (6-3) struck out 10 and allowed three walks, three hits and three runs in her complete game.

Hope dropped to 14-28, 2-20.

BASEBALL

Doubleheader

COSTA MESA — Catcher Kip Masuda went three for six with seven runs batted in to help Vanguard University win 16-9 and split a Golden State Athletic Conference doubleheader with visiting Fresno Pacific Saturday.

Vanguard (29-10, 20-8 in conference) was shut out in the seven-inning second game, 9-0.

No. 19-ranked Fresno Pacific is now 24-12, 16-12.

MEN’S GOLF

Western Intercollegiate

SANTA CRUZ — The UC Irvine men’s golf team is in fourth place after the first two rounds Saturday of the 64th annual event at Pasatiempo Golf Club.

Anteater senior John Chin is in a four-way tie for second place. Chin shot 69-68 Saturday for a two-round total of three-under par 137.
