CORONA DEL MAR — Spencer Haly had eight kills and two block assists to lead the Sea Kings to a 25-15, 25-16, 25-20 Pacific Coast League win Friday.

Jack Reed had seven kills, while Parker Brown (12 assists, three digs, two aces), Weston Nielsen (five digs, three aces) and Joey Booth had six kills each for CdM (14-8, 6-0 in league).

Nick Curci added 14 assists for the Sea Kings, who play host to Loyola of Los Angeles today at 2:30 p.m.

Loyola is ranked No. 2 in the CIF Southern Section Division I coaches’ poll, while CdM is ranked No. 6.

Newport Harbor

FOUNTAIN VALLEY — The Sailors played without junior Cody Caldwell, who missed the Academy League match because of academic reasons, Coach Dan Glenn said Friday.

The Barons pulled off a 25-23, 19-25, 26-24, 17-25, 15-13 upset over Newport, ranked No. 7 in the CIF Southern Section Division I coaches’ poll.

Jackson Carmack had 50 assists and 12 digs for Newport Harbor (13-8, 4-2 in league), while Rusty Sary had 20 kills, Will Connelly had 18 kills, Zack Martin had 14 kills and Austin Bagby had 10 kills.

Glenn said he hopes Caldwell will play Tuesday when the Sailors play host to Esperanza (6-0 in league) at 5:45 p.m. The Newport coach said Caldwell did not meet the team academic standards. The academic quarter ended at Newport Harbor Friday, so Glenn will know Monday if Caldwell can play.

Caldwell did play Tuesday in a big five-game win over Edison.

BASEBALL

Laguna Hills 4

LAGUNA HILLS — Beau Attyah went two for four with two doubles and a run batted in for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League game Friday.

Pitcher Matt Morris struck out four and scattered four hits in six innings to earn the win for CdM (8-12, 5-4 in league), which remains in second place in the PCL.

Clark Cashion was one for three with two RBIs for the Sea Kings.

Newport Harbor 5

ANAHEIM — The Sailors, who used six pitchers, dropped to 4-5 in the Sunset League Friday.

Newport Harbor Coach Patrick Murphy said his team has yet to find a No. 2 pitcher to help out ace Chase Kapana. Dillan Freiberg can’t be an option because he’s battling arm fatigue, Murphy said.

The Sailors (14-6) will try to bounce back next week. They suffered an 11-7 loss against Esperanza at home Wednesday, when they had a 7-0 lead after three innings.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Sage Hill 10, Whitney 8

NEWPORT BEACH — The host Lightning swept all nine singles sets in the Academy League match Friday at The Tennis Club.

It was the first league loss for Whitney (10-6, 5-1 in league).

Sage Hill is 6-10, 4-2.

Andrew Kurzwell swept 18 games in his return from an injury at No. 3 singles for the Lightning, for whom Alex Koeberle and Alex Manolakas also posted singles sweeps.

Newport Harbor 8

FOUNTAIN VALLEY — The No. 1 doubles team of Jason Cernius and Troy Arnold swept for the Sailors in the Sunset League match Friday.

Tracy Beblie won two out of three at No. 1 singles for Newport Harbor (9-5, 4-3 in league).

NEWPORT BEACH — Riley Robinson had two goals and two assists for the Sailors in the nonleague game Friday.

CORONA DEL MAR — Jaycee Olsen won three events for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League meet Thursday.

Olsen won the 100 meters (13.2 seconds), the shot put (37 feet, 1 1/2 inches) and the discus (132-10).

Melanie Powers won the 1,600 in 5 minutes, 16.4 seconds and the 3,200 in 11:45.2, while Sarah Keddington (2:20.5 in the 800), Sarah Cox (16.8 in the 100 hurdles) and Leila Pozin (50.1 in the 300 hurdles) won one event each for CdM, which competes in the Orange County Championships at Mission Viejo today.

CORONA DEL MAR — Brent Gray and Blake Myers won two events each for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League meet Thursday.

Gray won the 100 meters in 11 seconds and the 200 in 22.5. Myers took first in the 800 in 2 minutes, 2 seconds and the 1,600 in 4:33.3.

Austin Blodgett (42.5 in the 300 hurdles), Ian Klug (5 feet, 10 inches in the high jump) and Dan Steele (109-2 in the discus) were also winners for CdM.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Newport Harbor 11,

El Dorado 8

PLACENTIA — Junior Sierra Michaelsen had four goals and three assists to pace the visiting Sailors in the Sunset League contest Thursday.

Junior Taylor Cordeiro had three goals and one assist for the Sailors (11-6, 6-1 in league).
