The Corona del Mar High boys’ volleyball team earned its biggest win of the season Saturday, when it beat Loyola of Los Angeles, 13-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-21

Loyola is ranked No. 3 in the nation by ESPN Rise and No. 2 in the CIF Southern Section Division I coaches’ poll. CdM (15-8) is ranked No. 26 in the nation by ESPN and No. 6 in CIF Division I.

“We didn’t get off to a very good start,” CdM Coach Steve Conti said. “But we showed some resiliency and we started passing really well, the best we’ve passed all year ... We did what we are capable of doing.”

Weston Nielsen led CdM with 13 kills and six digs. Joey Booth had 10 kills and one block, Evan Dean had eight kills and two blocks, John Christian had six kills and two blocks and Spencer Haly had five kills and three blocks for the Sea Kings.

Parker Brown had 29 assists and five kills, and Nick Curci had 14 assists for CdM.

Sage Hill def. Crean Lutheran

NEWPORT COAST — Sophomore outside hitter Cole Kirby had 10 kills and two aces to lead the Lightning to a 25-12, 25-19, 25-15 Academy League win Friday.

Junior outside hitter Mattias Russo-Larsson had eight kills and three aces, while sophomore middle blocker Chris Zadra had six kills and two blocks for Sage Hill (12-9, 5-1 in league).
