Partner Penelope Parmes of Rutan & Tucker, LLP Honored By The Orange County Bankruptcy Forum
The Orange County Bankruptcy Forum has selected Penelope Parmes, a seasoned partner with Rutan & Tucker, LLP, California’s largest full-service law firm based in Orange County, as the recipient of The Honorable Peter M. Elliott Memorial Award for 2009.
The organization’s coveted award honors her for outstanding scholarship, ethics and service to the Orange County bankruptcy community. The award will be presented at a meeting of the Forum planned for April 27.
Parmes chairs the firm’s Bankruptcy/Financial Practices Group and represents secured creditors, landlords, buyers and sellers and trade creditors, officers and directors, and others affected by financial insolvency in or outside of a bankruptcy case. Her experience encompasses issues involving debtor-creditor relationships and lender liability cases, and includes real estate matters and issues relating to operating companies.
Parmes is a board member and former President of the California and Los Angeles Bankruptcy Bar Associations, a founding member and former President of the Warren J. Ferguson American Inn of Court, and has been a lawyer representative to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference. She has also been named a Southern California Super Lawyer in bankruptcy and creditors’ rights every year from 2005 to present.
The award’s namesake, Judge Elliott, served as a United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Central District of California from January 1, 1971 until he retired in November 1987. He was the first full-time judge to be appointed to the Ninth Circuit Bankruptcy Appellate Panel.
