Flemings record Super shutout

Flemings’ offense came alive and its defense was stingy during a two-game swing — both victories — in a four-day period in Newport Beach Little League Majors Division action.

On Tuesday, Flemings’ recorded a 6-0 shutout win over McMonigle. Brett Super threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings before reaching his pitch limit. He was relieved by Sam Kobrine, who finished the shutout.

McMonigle pitcher Jack Trush threw four solid innings and gave up just one run on a run batted in by Alec Tak of Flemings.

Flemings broke the game open in the fifth on Jonathan White’s two-RBI single.

Jack Genova went three for three and drove in a run and Ethan Wien added an RBI and scored the final run for Flemings. Connor Costello started Flemings’ fifth-inning five-run rally with a solid line drive to right-field.

Flemings beat ProBall, 5-1, Saturday and rode the pitching trio of Super, Kobrine and Alex Shadid, who combined on a two-hitter. White and Blake Kormos each had a pair of RBI doubles and Will Favreau made the defensive play of the game for Flemings with a catch of a long drive on the dead run just inside the right-field line.

ProBall 11, Jack’s Surfboards 7

In a battle with American League leader Jack’s Surfboards, ProBall came away with a big win on April 22. Jack Balfour had an RBI double and scored a run, Trent Attyah doubled and scored a run, Quiotee Sanders had an RBI sacrifice, Hayden Thompson had an RBI single, Kian Schank and Will O’Connor both singled and Nico Fraccia, Garrett Schwab, Stephen Von Der Ahe, Cody Armstrong and Dean Ames all scored for ProBall. Fraccia started on the mound and Sanders closed out the bottom of the sixth by striking out three after Jack’s had loaded the bases.

Conner Bock hit a grand slam in the fifth inning to pull Jack’s to within 9-4.

Carl’s Jr. 8, Turn-Two 3

A double by Zack Swies followed by singles by Hayden Schott and Nick Meisenheimer helped Carl’s Jr. jump out to a 5-0 lead en route to a victory Tuesday.

Tommy Steffel and Heifara Le Pedendu also had solid days at the plate and Max Moore, Meisenheimer and Schott took turns on the mound for Carl’s Jr.

Caleb Ricketts singled, doubled and tripled and Lane Adams and Payton Jefferson both contributed to the offense for Turn Two.

Home Run Monkeys 2

The pitching of Augie Miller and excellent all-around play by catcher Eric Kjos staked Carl’s Jr. to a long-overdue Pony League victory Saturday at Davis Field.

Miller struck out four in six innings and gave up four hits but didn’t allow a walk.

Justin Hess closed out the victory in the seventh by getting Home Run Moneys clean-up hitter Rigsby Duncan to fly out to Ryan Schroth at shortstop to end the game after the Monkeys had threatened to with two runners in scoring position.

Miller also had a single among Carl Jr’s seven hits. Kjos had a two-run double and Schroth and Will Hinkelman both singled.

For the Home Run Monkeys, Ryan Cargile had two hits, stole two bases and scored two runs, Cameron Hook had an RBI double and Kellen Ochi and Adam Davis both singled.

Angels 6, Dodgers 2

Pitcher Garrett Chadderdon allowed just two hits in 5 2/3 innings as the Angels sent the Dodgers to their third consecutive defeat. Both were fifth-inning singles by Evan Larsen and Daniel Morales.

Both Dylan DiCaprio and Mike Jarboe saw relief action in the top of the sixth for the Halos.

Jesse Campbell went two for three with two RBI and two runs scored, Carlos Rosales doubled and singled, Chadderdon, Cole Chambers and Ben Resnick each singled and walked and Nathan Tamir scored twice for the Angels who never trailed.
