The game is July 16 at Orange Coast College. Fountain Valley Coach John Shipp will lead the South squad.

Igarashi tops surf rankings

Huntington Beach resident Kanoa Igarashi tops the boys’ Under-14 rankings in the final Surfing America standings for the West Coast this year.

Igarashi was a finalist at the season finale, held in Malibu on April 18.

He finished third, with Nic Hernandez of Santa Cruz winning the event.

Igarashi is just 12 years old, but he’s already sponsored by Quiksilver.

He’ll be gearing up for the Surfing America USA Championships, held June 22 to 26 at Lower Trestles.

Giebler wins kart races

Huntington Beach resident Phil Giebler took back-to-back main event victories in the opening two rounds of the SuperKarts USA North American Pro Tour last weekend in Sonoma on the Jim Russell International Karting Center’s 0.75-mile circuit.

Giebler drove from last to first in Saturday’s 18-kart, 20-lap main event.

The 2007 Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year then lined up on the pole for Sunday’s main race and led the 20-kart field for the entire 20-lap distance.

Giebler earned $1,000 as SKUSA SpringNationals overall winner.
