Shooting leaves one man dead

A shooting in a Costa Mesa home late Monday that left one man dead may have been an accident, police said Tuesday.

Just before midnight Monday, police said there was a shooting in a home in the 1600 block of Whittier Avenue.

A 25-year-old man was killed by a gunshot to the head. Police are considering it a suspicious death, but it could have been an accident, authorities said.

Officers said the incident was under investigation and would not say if it appeared that the man shot himself or if anyone else was involved.

The man’s name is not being released pending notification of next of kin.
