Sea Kings collect No. 1 seed, bye
The Corona del Mar High boys’ lacrosse team, the Pacific Coast League champion, is the top seed in the U.S. Lacrosse Orange County Southern Section Division I Championships.
The Sea Kings (17-2, 10-0 in league) will have a first-round bye. They start the playoffs Thursday at home at 4 p.m. against the winner of today’s first-round match between Tesoro and Huntington Beach.
Newport Harbor (9-7, 6-1 in the Sunset League), the No. 12 seed, plays at fifth-seeded Santa Margarita today at 3 p.m.
CdM reached the Orange County final last year, losing to Foothill, which is the No. 2 seed in the playoffs.
The final is scheduled for May 11 at 7:45 p.m. at Laguna Hills High. The winner will play against the Los Angeles section winner in the Southern Section final May 14 at 8 p.m. at Valencia High.
Foothill is the three-time Orange County and section champion.
In the girls’ lacrosse playoffs, both Newport Harbor and Corona del Mar open with home games today.
CdM, the No. 8 seed, will play host to No. 9-seeded Tesoro at 5 p.m.
If the Sea Kings win they’ll face top-seeded Los Alamitos Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at Laurel School.
Newport Harbor, the No. 7 seed, plays host to No. 10-seeded San Clemente today at 5 p.m.
