Wildlife center plans baby shower

Everyone likes a baby shower, but the Wetlands & Wildlife Care Center is upping the ante by throwing one for small, fuzzy baby animals.

Raccoons, ducklings, squirrels and just-hatched snowy clovers, a bird that looks like a cotton ball on a toothpick, will be on view at the second annual baby shower Saturday, said Jamie Pavlat, a director at the Wetlands & Wildlife Care Center.

The center cares for and rehabilitates native wildlife in its Huntington Beach facility.

Guests will be able to look at the animals through one-way mirrors, so people can view them, but the animals keep their sense of privacy intact, Pavlat said.

There will be also be cake for residents at the baby shower.

Guests are asked to make a cash donation to help the center keep caring for animals, or donate fleece blankets, bulk fleece, cotton flannel receiving blankets, bleach, low-suds dry laundry detergent, Dawn dishwashing liquid and antibacterial hand soap.

They also need donations of small and medium pet crates, 45-gallon, heavy-duty trash bags, latex or nitrile gloves, fast-read thermometers, dog and cat food and industrial washer and dryers.

The center is registered at Target and Home Depot.

The baby shower is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Wetlands & Wildlife Care Center at 21900 Pacific Coast Highway.
