Church hosts volunteers
Community members can help give back at parks all over the city Saturday at the Mormon Helping Hands Community Service Day.
The Huntington Beach Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is sponsoring the volunteer day in Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley and Westminster from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The church is also holding a free breakfast and short program from 8 to 8:45 a.m. at its meeting house at 5402 Heil Ave.
Mayor Cathy Green presented the church presidents with a proclamation thanking them for their service at the City Council meeting Monday.
“Isn’t that great, that people just come forward and say, ‘Hey, how can we help you?’†Green asked.
Volunteers will spread wood chips around trees and walkways, paint picnic tables and remove weeds in Huntington Central Park; work on the barn at Golden View Park’s school farm; and restore habitat at the Magnolia Marsh. Volunteers will also work at Gibbs, Murdy, Edison, Bartlett and Mile Square Park.
Call (714) 848-0860.
