Program to send out street sweeping alerts

Huntington Beach has unveiled a new notification system to alert residents when street sweeping will happen in their neighborhood.

The subscription-based program, HBNotify, allows residents to sign up online to receive e-mail or text message alerts for their street.

The new system comes after Councilman Devin Dwyer said he would resign if something couldn’t be done about the city’s street-sweeping policy in October after receiving his 12th parking ticket. Dwyer didn’t resign but promised to work on a warning system for residents at the Oct. 6 council meeting.

“I want to thank staff for coming up with this. It’s a great program,” Dwyer said.

Residents must create a log-in name and input their address to be alerted of the time and date of street sweeping in their area.

Residents can also be alerted when newsletters, council agendas and the SANDS Recreation Guide is posted. The notification service is expected to have 40 to 50 alert options by June, staff said.

To sign up, go to www.huntingtonbeachca.gov and click on “I Want To” and then “Be Notified.”
