preliminaries

MOORPARK — Newport Harbor High’s Mark Sakoika, Max Van Bergh, Ryan Andrews, Jake Taylor, Ethan Cochran and Steven Michaelsen advanced to the finals in their respective events Saturday at Moorpark High.

Sakoika and Van Bergh both cleared 14 feet, 6 inches to move on in the pole vault.

Andrews (55-7 1/2 ) and Taylor (54-6) advanced in the shot put.

Cochran (169-0) and Michaelsen (161-3) qualified in the discus.

The Newport girls had no finals qualifiers.

Gwen Gaylord ran a personal-best 12.68 in the 100 meters.

CIF Division IV

preliminaries

CARPINTERIA — Sage Hill School’s Colton Gyulay was third in the triple jump and was also part of the 4x100-meter relay team that qualified Saturday.

He had a personal-best 44 feet in the triple jump. Gyulay, Eric Cheng, Jack Percival and Kevin Schaefer won their 4x100 heat and qualified fourth in 44.05.

Schaefer qualified seventh in the 100 in 11.20 and Luke Angel eighth in the pole vault (11-0)
