Knapp, 3 others advance

LONG BEACH – Estancia High sophomore Jake Knapp finished second to lead four locals who advanced from the CIF Southern Individual Regional boys’ golf event Monday at Skylinks Golf Course.

Knapp, the Orange Coast League champion, shot five-under-par 67 to finish one stroke behind repeat champion Patrick Cantlay from Servite.

Knapp advances to the CIF Individual Championship Tournament, contested Monday at La Purisma Golf Coarse in Lompoc.

Joining Knapp in Lompoc will be Corona del Mar High sophomores Mike Moorhead and John Davenport, as well as Newport Harbor junior Zach Eddy.

Moorhead, the two-time Pacific Coast League champion, shot 74, as did Davenport, who finished third at league finals.

Eddy, who was seventh at Sunset League Finals, also carded a 74.

The cutoff for the top 30, plus ties, who advanced was 75.

Davenport had seven birdies and Moorhead had four, CdM Coach Mike Starkweather said.

The top 28 individuals at Lompoc will advance to the CIF/Southern California Golf Assn. Tournament, which includes competitors from the San Diego and Los Angeles City sections.
