Marine Killed in Afghanistan
Cpl. Kurt Shea, USMC, 21 of
Frederick, MD, died Monday, May 17,
2010 in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
Kurt was a radio operator assigned to
the 3rd Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment,
2nd Marine Division, II Marine
Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune,
NC. Kurt had 2 more weeks to finish his
2nd tour of duty in Afghanistan before he
came home.
Kurt was active in his community from a young age, he led
his high school wrestling team to the state championships,
volunteered at a local animal shelter, was an officer of the Future
Farmers of America and the Maryland Demolay Society.
Shea’s family is stunned, saddened and at the same time,
intensely proud.
His mother says she always knew he wanted to serve his
country, and that’s how she hopes he will be remembered. “I will
be wondering what might have been. I know there is no way to
know that, but I have the rest of my life to miss him,” she said.
He is the son of Steve & Linda DiTullio Shea of Maryland. A
sister Olivia and paternal grandmother Diane Shea of New York.
His Laguna Beach family includes Bob/Mary DiTullio & Dan/
Corin Mulrenin.
