Teens accused of drug possession

Two Fullerton boys were arrested 3:01 p.m. June 23 after they were reportedly smoking marijuana at Crescent Bay Beach, Lt. Jason Kravetz said. The 16- and 17-year-old were also arrested on suspicion of having cocaine. Both were brought to the Police Department and released to a parent.

Elephant seal bites boogie-boarder

An elephant seal bit an 11-year-old girl while she was boogie-boarding at Crescent Bay Beach at 3:46 p.m. June 23, Kravetz said. The incident occurred in three feet of water. Lifeguards reported that, about an hour before the incident, the Marine Mammal Center released an elephant seal at the beach, which lingered in the area and never swam away. The child did not require medical attention.

Driver sought in hit-and-run

Police are seeking a hit-and-run driver who allegedly failed to stop after striking a 46-year-old man at 4:27 p.m. June 25 in the 300 block of San Tropez Court, Kravetz said.

The victim was placing trash into a Dumpster when a GMC pickup drove past him. Something from the bed of the truck was sticking out and struck the victim in the back, knocking him to the ground and into the bushes. The truck continued westbound on St. Tropez and out of the apartment complex, Kravetz alleged. The victim had complaints of pain and was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.

Boy run over by car

A 6-year-old boy was knocked down and run over while walking to the beach with his family at 6 p.m. Saturday at Aster Street and Monterey Drive, Kravetz said.

A woman was driving a BMW when her side mirror hit the boy, causing him to fall down, and her rear tire ran over his leg. The boy was taken to the hospital for treatment, but apparently did not suffer any major injuries. The driver was not cited at the scene and alcohol was not involved in the incident, Kravetz added.

Police seek shoplifter

A shoplifting was reported at 8 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of Laguna Avenue, Kravetz said.

A suspect stole two grey T-shirts worth $200 from a store in the 200 block of Ocean Avenue, and the reporting party flagged down a Border Patrol unit, who called Laguna Beach police out to the scene.

The suspect, last seen in the area of 200 Ocean Avenue, was with two friends, all described as wearing baggy clothing. The suspect is described as a black man, 5-foot-10, 180 pounds, wearing a dark-colored Ed Hardy shirt and having gold teeth.

Man’s arrest draws applause

A homeless man was arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure and public intoxication in the 400 block of Heisler Park at 2:41 p.m. Sunday, Kravetz said.

“We were called out to Heisler Park for a man lying on the grass near the picnic tables with his penis hanging out,” Kravetz said.

“There were families in the area who started clapping when the officers arrested him,” Kravetz said. “We heard he had been causing quite a commotion before the officers arrived.”

Boy struck in crosswalk at Brooks

A 14-year-old boy visiting from Utah was struck in a crosswalk at Brooks Street and South Coast Highway at 5:43 p.m. June 22, Kravetz said.

The driver, an Anaheim woman driving a blue 2008 BMW 328i, was not cited. The boy was taken to Mission Hospital Mission Viejo as a trauma patient with non-life threatening injuries, Kravetz said.

Tools, copper stolen from work site

Thieves struck a business under renovation in the 2800 block of Laguna Canyon Road, stealing $1,600 worth of tools and construction equipment, copper wiring and light fixtures, Kravetz said. The theft was reportedat 12:36 p.m. Tuesday, and occurred during the previous evening.

Woman accused of hitting trolley, fleeing

A Moreno Valley woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run after her vehicle struck a trolley bus in the 300 block of Cliff Drive at 7:46 p.m. Tuesday, Kravetz said. The driver then drove away.

Officers stopped the vehicle the truck at South Coast Highway and Pearl Street after a description of the vehicle was broadcast to police.

A female passenger was also arrested on suspicion of public intoxication, and released the next morning without criminal charges pending against her, Kravetz said.
