Laguna Beach property taxes up a positive 1.89%

Laguna Beach had the second highest increase in assessed valuation in Orange County, according to the property tax assessments for fiscal year 2010-11 from the Orange County assessor.

The city’s adopted budget assumed a zero percent increase, but it is a positive 1.89%, which is roughly $380,000 in additional property taxes, according to City Manager Ken Frank. The city will now use $820,000 from the Recession Smoothing Account, instead of $1.2 million.

Community Foundation, seniors pair up for grant workshop

Laguna Beach Seniors and the Laguna Beach Community Foundation are co-sponsoring a free workshop from 3 to 5 p.m. Aug. 2 on “How to Build Your Grant Seeking Skills” at the Susi Q Senior Center, 380 Third St.

The workshop is designed for beginning to intermediate grant seekers. All 501 (c)(3) exempt organizations and other interested exempt organizations are welcome. To make a reservation, call (949) 315-9261 or e-mail info@lagunabeachcf.org.

The workshop panel features Maya Dunne, a nationally recognized leader in the area of nonprofit management, philanthropy and public sector initiatives addressing community problems; L.R. (Randy) Kraft, a communications and development consultant for nonprofits with experience in writing more than 400 grants; and Barbara McMurray, a writer, public relations professional, and grant writing consultant for nonprofits.

Panelists will provide information on where to look for funding opportunities that best matches your nonprofit’s mission, most efficient methods to research corporate and private funders, and how to make your proposal stand out. Other topics include what grant reviewers are looking for in a proposal, and how important it is to properly illustrate who is on your board and your staff capacity.

Parking at the Community Center Garage is limited. Parking is available at the Laguna Beach Unified School District parking lot with trolley service. Reservations are required as seating is limited.
