Orangewood names Grant to board

Orangewood Children’s Foundation, a private nonprofit serving abused and neglected children in Orange County since 1981, has named Laguna Beach resident Kathryn A. Grant to its board of directors. Grant is managing director of international and professional marketing with Solta Medical. She will serve a three-year term.

A Certified Meeting Manager, Grant is well-acquainted with Orangewood from her eight years with the Junior League of Orange County. In addition to the Junior League, she has extensive non-profit experience and many professional associations, including Young President’s Organization, Orange County Symphony, Overture Young Professional Committee, and Junior League Mid Peninsula Palo Alto.

“I am honored and excited to be able to continue the work on behalf of abused children in the community,” Grant said. “Over the past eight years I have learned much about Orangewood and their mission and know that it is the right place for me to be.”

Grant lives in Laguna Beach with her husband, Robert; and step-daughter, Maddie, 14.

Rabin in Lawyer’s Hall of Fame

Laguna Beach resident Byron M. Rabin has been inducted into the Orange Country Trial Lawyers Assn’s Hall of Fame for his nearly three decades as a distinguished attorney in Southern California. Rabin was one of youngest partners at Rose, Klein & Marias and when he retired began serving as a mediator with Judicate West. He was invited to be a member of the International Assn. of Mediators, which consists of the top 10% of all mediators in the world. Among his many achievements as a litigator is winning a landmark case against the Ford Motor Company.

After receiving his law degree in 1972, Rabin worked briefly at the Law Offices of Joseph M. Feinberg in Corona Del Mar before joining Rose, Klein & Marias, in Santa Ana. Five years later, he took on the Ford Motor Co. in the highly publicized Gray v Ford Motor Co. involving an allegation that a flawed gas tank in a 1971 Pinto led to the death of a passenger. An Orange County jury awarded the victim’s family $12.8 million.

He retired from the firm in 1998, the year he was named the Orange County Trial Lawyers Assn.’s Personal Injury Trial Lawyer of the Year.
