UCI student suspected in attempted murder
Irvine police are looking for a UC Irvine undergraduate student suspected of attempted murder.
At 2:20 p.m. Wednesday, police received a 911 call from a child in need of assistance for her mother. When police arrived at Verano Place apartments near UCI, they found that the victim had been beaten, strangled and was unconscious. The suspect is the husband, Gregory Scott Turner, who had fled the scene.
The 33-year-old Turner is described as 6 feet tall, Caucasian and 225 pounds. Police believe he fled the scene in a blue 2006 Chevrolet truck. The license plate is 8P53538. Friends told police that Turner was having thoughts of suicide after the incident.
The victim was taken to the hospital and is recovering. Her two children are now in the care of Child Protective Services.
UCI increased their patrols Wednesday night but do not believe Turner is on campus.
Anyone with information should contact the UCI Police Department at (949) 824-5223.
