Woman files claim for items missing after son’s arrest
A Huntington Beach resident’s mother is asking the city to reimburse her son for a SIM card and $20 sunglasses missing after they were seized during her son’s arrest.
Emily Clarke filed a claim Dec. 13 against the city on behalf of her son Jason Clarke, 29, asking for $70 to replace his missing property, according to public documents.
City spokeswoman Laurie Payne said the claim is under investigation and that no action has been taken.
Jason Clarke was arrested Nov. 29 on a warrant in his mother’s home, according to the claim.
Emily Clarke allegedly saw officers take black sunglasses and a phone, plus a black backpack filled with several items, according to the claim.
When Emily Clarke went to the Huntington Beach Police Department to retrieve her son’s property, the sunglasses and the SIM card from inside the phone were missing, according to the claim.
All the items in the backpack were accounted for, according to the claim.
The claim is asking for $50 for the SIM card and $20 for the sunglasses.
