Sex offender with parrot arrested in Huntington Beach
Huntington Beach police arrested a registered sex offender from Newport Beach for allegedly trying to get children to play with his parrot.
At about 4:15 p.m. Saturday, a Huntington Beach resident called police to report a suspicious man near Main Street and Pacific Coast Highway.
Authorities said Michael Joseph DeSilva, 65, was not making contact with any children at the time officers approached. But, witnesses told police, DeSilva was trying to get the kids to play with his parrot named “Mango.”
Officers investigated and found that DeSilva was a registered sex offender, who was allegedly violating his probation by having contact with the children.
DeSilva was booked at the Huntington Beach Police Department city jail.
Authorities want anyone who may have information or if who may know of any children that have had contact with DeSilva to call the Huntington Beach Police Department at (714) 960-8825.
