DOROTHY MARIE KENNEY
JUNE 21, 1922 – APRIL 20, 2011
Dorothy Marie Kenney, 88, was born in Trinidad, Colorado on June 21, 1922. Dorothy spent her early years in Colorado and Albuquerque, New Mexico before moving to Los Angeles in 1934.
She attended John H. Francis Polytechnic High School in 1940 and, after graduating, worked for Salisbury Motors in Los Angeles. She met the love of her life, Bill Kenney, in a diner across the street. World War II was escalating and Bill enlisted in the Army. After the war the two were inseparable and married on June 10, 1948. They settled in Buena Park and raised a family. Dorothy was a Cub Scout leader, volunteer and PTA President twice, receiving the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award.
After becoming empty nesters, Bill and Dorothy were active in the Fullerton Elks Lodge where Dorothy was very involved in the Emblem Club. They moved to Newport Beach in 1992 so Dorothy could share in the joy of raising her two granddaughters. She was also active at the Oasis Center.
Dorothy was a loving and devoted wife and a dedicated and caring mother who will be dearly missed. She is survived by her sister, Pauline Hahn; daughter, Stacy Kaiser; son, William “Skip” Kenney; grandsons, Jacob and Jared Kaiser; and granddaughters, Kristin and Megan Kenney.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday May 9th at Harbor Christian Church, 2401 Irvine Ave., Newport Beach, Calif. Burial will be private.
