First date goes awry

A Newport Beach woman crashed her car while under the influence on a first date April 29, according to police reports.

The woman hit a parked car at Bluebird Canyon Dr. and South Coast Hwy, causing moderate damage, then dropped her date off and fled the scene.

She was found a block from the crash site and was arrested on suspicion of a DUI and for a hit-and-run.

The case is going to the district attorney because of a complaint, Sgt. Louise Callus said.

Snorkeler reports finding human bones

A man snorkeling in Diver’s Cove reported that he discovered human bones in the sea May 1.

The medical student found a knee bone, femur and portion of a tibia or fibula.

“The bones appear to have clean cuts,” Sgt. Callus said.

The diver said he could see ligaments attached and meniscus between the bones.

The bones were turned over to the coroner’s office.

Police respond to man and dancer fighting at hotel

Authorities were called to the scene at La Casa Del Camino on April 29 where a man and an exotic dancer were arguing over $500.

The man had paid the dancer to come back to his room, and they were arguing about what the amount entailed.

No arrest and no report were made.

Wrong-way driver has medical emergency

A person reported a drunk driver who was swerving and driving on the wrong side of the road on Laguna Canyon Road at 2:58 p.m. Saturday.

The person reported that the driver almost hit his vehicle and others.

Authorities found the suspect against a dirt mound in the 2000 block.

He was extremely disoriented, and police found an insulin pump on his leg. It was deemed a medical emergency.

Man found sleeping in empty home

A neighbor in the 100 block of Cleo Street called authorities at 7:29 a.m. April 29 to report that a transient was sleeping in a neighboring home that was under construction.

He believed the man broke into the home and could see him upstairs, through the window, wrapped up in a blanket.

When authorities arrived, they decided the suspect was drunk, disoriented and had stumbled into the home as a means to “sleep off” his inebriation.

Police were not asked to prosecute.
