Police arrest burglary suspect in Cameo Shores
Flashing lights aren’t usually how Laura Dietz wakes up in the morning, but on Friday, the bright glare of four police cars got her up with a start.
Police officers, two with guns drawn, went into the backyard of the 23-year resident’s home in the 300 block of Cameo Shores Road in Corona del Mar.
Police were looking for a suspect while she and her 12-year-old daschund, Ty, waited in a patrol car about 5:45 a.m., Dietz said.
Officers were trying to find a 17-year-old boy who was caught opening a resident’s door in the 4500 block of nearby Hampden Road, said Newport police Lt. Bill Hartford.
The boy fled on foot, but officers found and arrested him on suspicion of burglary, Hartford said.
Dietz and Ty waited about 15 to 20 minutes until police gave the all-clear sign before returning home.
“The police did a great job, and considering what was happening, it was pretty quiet,” Dietz said.
