Newport-Mesa shoppers can enjoy one-night deals and entertainment benefiting a New York charity when Fashion’s Night Out at South Coast Plaza and Fashion Island on Thursday.

American Vogue, the Council of Fashion Designers of America, NYC & Co. and the city of New York created the international shopping event in 2009.

FNO returns to Fashion Island for the second consecutive year from 5 to 9 p.m., while South Coast Plaza retailers will participate from 6 to 9 p.m., according to the shopping centers.

This is the first year that South Coast Plaza has officially participated.

Fashion Island kicks off the event with a fall fashion presentation by top celebrity stylist Melis Kuris and L.A. Confidential Editor-in-Chief Sari Anne Tuschman at 5 p.m. in the Neiman Marcus-Bloomingdale’s Courtyard.

In-store fashion and beauty events with musical entertainment, giveaways and cocktails will follow the presentation at more than 40 Fashion Island retailers.

Among the events will be Art and Fashion, an event co-hosted by Neiman Marcus and the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, free blow-dry touch-ups at Cristophe Salon, skin care consultations and mini facials at L’ Occitane en Provence and a fall fashion show at the Children’s Place.

Other Fashion Island retailers include Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom, American Rag Cie, Anthropologie, Elie Tahari, Ella Moss, Ever, G-Star, Inglot, JACK SPADE, Jonathan Adler, Kate Spade, Michael Stars, Original Penguin, Sperry Top-Sider, Splendid, Trina Turk and Vince.

The event begins at South Coast Plaza with a chance for shoppers to win a $1,000 shopping center gift certificate.

In-store events at about 100 retailers include Samba lessons led by Carnivale-costumed Samba dancers at Assouline, free mini facials and make-up consultations at Origins, card making demonstrations at Paper Source, make your own margherita pizza at Quattro Café and others.

Additionally, Costa Mesa firefighters will host a catwalk and fashion show at AnQi by Crustacean benefiting the Costa Mesa Firefighters Widow’s and Orphan’s Fund.

Other retailers include Anne Fontaine, Bally, Canali, Chanel, David Yurman, Intermix, J. Crew, Michael Kors, Prada, Tiffany & Co., Yves Saint Laurent and more.
