Costa Mesa and Newport Beach residents can join their legislator for a cup of joe Saturday morning.

Assemblyman Allan Mansoor (R-Costa Mesa) is hosting the Newport-Mesa Community Coffee event from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in the Harper Room at the Costa Mesa Neighborhood Community Center, 1845 Park Ave.

Mansoor, a former Costa Mesa mayor, wants to meet with residents to discuss his first year in the state Assembly and his plans for the future.

“Next year, I’m hoping we can chip away at some of the policies that are running California into the ground,” Mansoor said in a newsletter sent from Allan Mansoor for Assembly 2012. “I’m going to continue working on regulatory reform to help small businesses and pension reform to help control the cost of government.”

Mansoor was elected to the City Council in 2002 and 2006 before running for state Assembly in 2010. He is running for reelection in 2012 to represent Costa Mesa, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Laguna Woods, and parts of Irvine and Huntington Beach.
