Man arrested after grand theft investigation
A Huntington Beach man was arrested Tuesday following a conspiracy and grand theft investigation by California Attorney General Kamala D. Harris.
Curtis Melone, 37, who also goes by Curtis Kubat, along with Christopher Fox, 37, of Laguna Niguel allegedly collected more than $6 million from homeowners nationwide under the guise of an attorney-backed loan modification company. But the services promised were never performed, according to a release issued by the attorney general’s office.
Both Melone and Fox are being held at the Orange County Jail in lieu of a $500,000 bond. They were scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Orange County Superior Court.
Their 37 felony counts include conspiracy, grand theft and unlawful collection of advance fees, according to the release.
