Escaped O.C. jail inmate captured
An inmate who escaped from an Orange County jail was back behind bars Friday, sheriff’s officials said.
William Scott Woodin, 39, was arrested at Vintage Park in Lake Forest about 24 hours after he escaped, according to KTLA. He was discovered missing from the jail in the city of Orange about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
He was serving time after being arrested Oct. 23 in Irvine after he allegedly tried to steal a watch from a Nordstrom store.
Woodin pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of petty theft and giving a false name to police, according to court records.
He was assigned to a work detail in the jail’s kitchen, officials said, and escaped through a floor-level window he broke in the kitchen.
As recently as 2009, Woodin was a Newport Beach resident but most recently was a resident of Tucson.
