School board to vote on interim superintendent contract
The Newport-Mesa Unified school board plans to vote Tuesday on a contract that will give the interim superintendent an estimated $22,100 a month to cover his salary, mileage and housing costs.
Rob Barbot’s proposed contract includes $960 a day in compensation, $500 a month for mileage and an estimated $2,400 a month for temporary housing, according to the agenda.
The contract calls for Barbot to waive vacation, sick leave and health benefits.
Barbot, a former Newport-Mesa Unified schools chief who now lives in Northern California, will start Feb. 23 and help lead the six-month search to find a permanent superintendent, according to terms of the contract.
The contract runs through July 31. District officials hope to find a permanent replacement by July 1.
The school board’s legal counsel, Spencer Covert, negotiated the contract with Barbot, according to the agenda.
