Alan Travis Beimfohr

Alan Travis Beimfohr, 67, of Newport Beach, California, passed away peacefully at home on April 17, 2012, surrounded by his devoted wife Linda, his loving children Alison, Nick and Kurt, and his brother Ed.
Alan was born on January 4, 1945 in Ft. Riley, Kansas to Casper VanDyke Beimfohr and Dorothy Hood Beimfohr. He spent his childhood in Michigan, Arizona and Florida. After high school, he was awarded an academic scholarship to Cornell University, where he earned a BS degree in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering in 1966. Upon graduation, Alan accepted a job from Caterpillar Inc. in Peoria, Illinois, which subsequently brought him to Southern California. He left Caterpillar to join Kidder, Peabody & Co., Inc. in 1972 where he worked for seventeen years, attaining the position of Vice President.
In 1988, Alan co-founded Canterbury Capital Services with Garth Flint, Kenneth Kreuger and D. Robinson Cluck, where he served as President and Chief Executive Officer. Ten years later, in 1998, Alan co-founded Knightsbridge Asset Management, a portfolio management company, with John Prichard. During the following decade, Knightsbridge grew its assets under management to over $1,000,000,000.
Alan is former President of the Cornell Alumni Association of Southern California. Additionally, Alan served on the Advisory Council to the Cornell Financial Engineering Manhattan MFE program. In 2011, the Alan T. and Linda M. Beimfohr Lecture Series was established at Cornell to recognize the importance of religious life at a non-sectarian university. Alan also served on the Investment Committee of the U.C. Irvine Foundation.
Alan and Linda attended St. Matthew’s Anglican Catholic Church wherein Alan led the Architectural Committee in designing their church located on 2300 Ford Road, Newport Beach.
Alan loved classical music and is former Chairman of the Board of the Philharmonic Society of Orange County. Alan was selected by the Philharmonic Board of Directors to receive its highest honor, the Golden Baton Award, for his steadfast leadership during their most challenging times. Both Alan and Linda were enthusiastic supporters of the arts in Orange County and are Esterhazy Patrons.
Alan loved Germany and German stamp collecting. His collection was extensive and one of a kind, and was sold in Stuttgart, Germany in 2011.
Alan leaves behind his wife Linda M. Beimfohr, his three children Alison B. Stanley, Nicholas E. Beimfohr and Kurt E. Beimfohr, his brother and sister-in-law Carl Edward Beimfohr and Rebecca Baca-Beimfohr of Timonium, Maryland , his son-in-law Shawn M. Stanley, daughter-in-law Jill P. Beimfohr, and his five grandchildren Haley (14), Lauren (4), Chloe (4), Trevor (2) and Hudson (1).
Visitation will be held at Pacific View Memorial Park Main Chapel at 3500 Pacific View Drive, Corona del Mar from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Monday, April 23.
A Requiem Mass will be held at St. Matthew’s Church at 2300 Ford Road, Newport Beach at 10:00am on Tuesday, April 24. At approximately 12 noon, a gathering to share reflections about Alan will be held at Pacific View Main Chapel, with burial following.
