Briefs: Former ‘Eater shines

Former UC Irvine golfer John Chin finished 22nd in the Nationwide Tour’s BMW Charity Pro-Am that concluded Sunday.

Chin shot back-to-back rounds of 68 to finish the 72-hole event at nine-under-par 277, six shots behind winner Nick Flanagan.

Chin, a three-time Big West Conference Golfer of the Year and two-time individual conference champion, pocketed $5,486.

Mike Lavery, the Big West champion in 2003 while at UCI, finished 59th at the event, played over three courses.

Ex-’Eater on Big Break

Former UC Irvine women’s golfer Selanee Henderson is a contestant on the Golf Channel’s “Big Break Atlantis” which premiered May 14.

Henderson competed for the Anteaters from 2004-2008, helping UCI to a Big West Championship title all four years. She was named Big West Golfer of the Year in 2006 and is tied for the most tournament wins in school history with six. The four-time, first-team All-Big West honoree placed 27th at the 2005 NCAA Championships (297).

Henderson, who is a member of the all-female cast of 12 professionals, is competing for a spot in the LPGA Kingsmill Championship (Sept. 6-9) and $50,000, as well as other perks worth more than $30,000.

Shot in January at the Bahamas resort, the 11-part series will unfold on the Tom Weiskopf-designed Ocean Club Golf Course.
