Holiday visitors leave tons of trash at Big Corona
Newport Beach crews removed 7.5 tons of trash from Big Corona State Beach the day after Independence Day, according to a city memo.
“In four hours on Thursday, 10 field maintenance crewmembers collected and removed over 7.5 tons of trash and other debris that had been left on the ground and in the beach area trash containers at the park,” the memo states.
July 5 is the biggest clean-up day for the year for the city’s Municipal Operations Department, the memo states.
“Staff started their shift at 5:00 am to remove signs, delineators, barricades, portable toilets, and to assist with beach clean-up,” the memo states.
In West Newport’s so-called party zone, 36 crew members carefully orchestrated cleanup of beaches, commercial districts and streets, the memo states.
