Police arrest man who allegedly rammed truck into cop car
Costa Mesa police on Friday arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder for allegedly ramming a stolen truck into a squad car.
Vincent Joseph Leon, 27, was arrested near Dyer Road and Pullman Street in Santa Ana about 12:40 p.m., according to the Costa Mesa Police Department.
Police said an officer spotted Leon, and when the officer tried to contact Leon, he turned and ran. He eventually surrendered after a short foot pursuit.
Leon is believed to be the driver who drove a stolen black Nissan truck into a Costa Mesa police squad car at the New Harbor Inn on July 5, at which time the officer fired at him in self-defense. The Orange County district attorney’s office is investigating the incident, as is routine for officer-involved shootings.
Leon is also being held on a warrant for being a parolee at large, police said.
