Paddle out for water pollution

James Pribram, in partnership with the Below the Surface nonprofit, set out paddle boarding from Laguna down to the border of Mexico July 20 to raise awareness about river mouth pollution.

“I would say the last one, Tijuana Sloughs, is as bad as it gets, “Pribram said about the worst river mouths he’s seen yet. “That one what is horrible. It’s the worst one in the country.”

Pribram has been paddling down to the border the past week, taking breaks for the night in various cities. He was set to be back in Laguna Saturday.

Below the Surface donated some equipment like the paddleboard and paddles. The 41-year-old Pribram travels around the world in an effort to raise awareness about water pollution.

“By doing some of theses expeditions and having photos and videos [helps] to tell the story of what our oceans are like when healthy and clean and, of course, when you get down to the sloughs [you see] what it is like when it’s polluted and a health hazard.”
