Pizza parlors donating 20% of Tuesday’s sales
Looking for local opportunities to support Hurricane Sandy victims? Original Pizza, which has two locations in the Newport-Mesa area, will donate 20% of its sales Tuesday to the Rockaway Beach Relief Fund.
Owner Steve Kalatschan, whose father opened the first Original Pizza in 1963 said he heard about that particular fund through a friend at the Crossing Church in Costa Mesa. He said he was moved by the fact that Rockaway Beach, a Queens neighborhood that was particularly hard-hit by the storm, is home to many of New York City’s firefighters and police officers.
“Firemen — their houses were burnt to the ground and they weren’t able to do anything because they were out helping the rest of the city,” he said. “That struck me really hard.”
The two Original Pizza restaurants — at 2121 W. Balboa Blvd in Newport Beach and at 2675 Irvine Ave. in Costa Mesa — will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Kalatschan said.
For more information, call the Newport location at (949)673-1451 or (949)574-4995 for Costa Mesa.
