Born Jan. 5, 1920, Katherine was the first of six children of Samuel and Angeline Banchiere of Oakmont, PA. Graduated from Oakmont HS in June 1937, she began working for the local newspaper, The Advance-Leader. Except for an interval in the WAAC and short employment as a munitions plant inspector, she remained with the newspaper until her marriage (1948) to James Tamburro, son of Domenick and Elvira Tamburro of Verona, PA., and the birth of their first son. In June 1952, with two small sons they moved to L.A., CA. to join family who had relocated there.
Both worked for several years at North Amer. Aviation. James later worked as a starter for the former Western Ave. Golf Course and later with Parker-Hannifin in Orange County where he retired in 1984. Katherine did part-time work in L.A. and O.C. where they moved in 1971 to Costa Mesa. James preceded Katherine in death
3/9/11 after 62 years of marriage. She is survived by sons, James Jr. of Costa Mesa, and John (Annamarie) Tamburro of Las Vegas; brother Charles Banchiere of Greensburg, PA; sister Gaetana June Stanley of Hunt. Beach, CA: sisters-in-law Eva Tamburro Prince (recently deceased) with niece Carol Ann Dema of Bellevue, WA and Mary Banchiere of Hunt. Beach, CA; her aunt Theresa Scalzo (Erie) Hill of Simi Valley; their families and numerous other relatives. There was cremation and no services.
