Newport Beach City Hall closing Monday

Preparations for Newport Beach’s big move from its old City Hall on Newport Boulevard to new digs near Fashion Island will close city offices and public counters from 1 to 5:30 p.m. Monday.

City Hall will reopen the following day at 7:30 a.m., a news release said. Staff members will, however, be onsite sorting documents, consolidating files and tackling other such tasks ahead of the anticipated early April moving dates.

A public open house is scheduled for May 4, and the City Council has been meeting in its new chambers at 100 Civic Center Drive since December.

According to the release, the bulk of the move is tentatively scheduled for April 5 and 6.

Because the city’s data center and more than 200 staff computers will need to be disconnected, then reconnected, City Hall will likely be closed April 5 through 10. Staffers, again, will report to work during that time to help unpack.
