Several fundraisers set for Dizz’s As Is owner

The community is coming together to show its support for Marc Pitz, owner of Dizz’s As Is, who is battling pancreatic cancer. Several fundraisers have been set up for him.

Furioso Salon will host a Cut-a-Thon from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. Stylists will offer haircuts for a minimum donation and there will also be a cookout and silent auction, according to a news release. Local businesses that have donated for the silent auction include Miller Wine Works, Tommy Bahama’s, Lauren Conrad’s Paper Crown line of clothing, Tuvalu, Stuffed Olive, ReMark’s, Unique Tan, Zinc Cafe and others.

All of the proceeds from the event will be given to the Friends of Marc Fund. Cash or checks will only be accepted.

Then on Monday, The Saloon and Watermarc Restaurant are hosting a joint fundraiser from 5 to 9 p.m. at the restaurant. For $100, participants get food and two drink tickets.

Watermarc will feature a buffet, music by The Heat Band and a silent auction. Next door at The Saloon, a drawing for prizes and more food from neighboring restaurants will be offered.

Tickets are $25 each or five for $100. So far, donated items include Phil Interlandi’s painting of Dizz’s As Is and an original Playboy color cartoon, a stay at the Montage Beverly Hills, a Paul Reed Smith guitar signed by Carlos Santana, Lakers tickets in a private suite, gift certificates to local hotels and restaurants and more.

And Mayor Kelly Boyd and former City Manager Ken Frank will meet, greet and seat diners at a special meal on Thursday at Dizz’s As Is, 2794 S. Coast Hwy.

The dinner is being held to generate business at the restaurant to make up for the absence of Pitz.

“We are asking friends to join us for dinner,” said Boyd, himself a cancer patient. “This is an effort to help Marc and his family. Hope you can join us.”

The restaurant is a favorite of long-time Lagunans. Frank hosted dinners there for coworkers and friends when he retired. Reservations may be made by calling (949) 494-5250 after 5:30 p.m.

Local to be honored at school event

Tarbut V’Torah Community Day School is honoring two businessmen, including one Lagunan, at its annual benefit.

Lou Weiss of Laguna Beach, executive director of Longevity Inc., and Newport Beach’s Sam Wyman, cofounder of Wolfe & Wyman LLP, will be recognized at the event from 7:15 to 11 p.m. Saturday at Newport Lexus, 3901 MacArthur Blvd.
