One of the two Costa Mesa hikers who got lost in Trabuco Canyon was found about 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Orange County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Jason Park said Nicholas Cendoya, 19, was found after a crew of hikers said they saw him and pointed in his direction.

Cendoya was conscious but weak and confused, Park said. A helicopter was sent to pick him up in a thick brush area about a half mile from where his car was found.

As of 10:30 p.m. Kyndall Jack, 18, was still missing.

“We’re confident that we will find Kyndall,” Park said.

He added later, “We’re going to stay out there until we find her. We’re very optimistic with what we have.”

OCSD has ground crews in the area and will keep the air support up as long as they can, he said.

“We’re probably limited because visibility is going to get bad,” he said.

Cendoya was being evaluated in the emergency department at Mission Hospital Mission Viejo, according to the hospital’s Marketing Director Tamara Sharp.

“At this point we are calling it serious,” she said, adding that hospital authorities will know more after some tests.
