D.A. seeks more possible victims of tennis coach

After charging an Irvine tennis coach with eight felony counts of lewd acts with a child under 14, prosecutors are asking for more victims to come forward, the Orange County district attorney’s office announced Monday.

Prosecutors allege Jarrid Thomas Baldogo, 29, met his 12-year-old male victim at the tennis courts in Irvine’s Santa Clara Park in November. Irvine police originally said the boy was 13.

After being hired as the boy’s private coach, Baldogo sexually assaulted him at least eight times in his car and apartment between December and May, prosecutors said. Those crimes allegedly included masturbation and oral copulation.

Baldogo is a private tennis instructor focusing on teaching kids between 4 and 18 years old, according to a D.A.’s press release.

He has worked at tennis courts owned by the Woodbridge Homeowner’s Assn. in Irvine, according to the release. The D.A. originally said Baldogo worked for the homeowners association directly but later clarified, saying he was hired by a tennis professional who contracts with the association.

He also worked for Westchester High School in Los Angeles and Manhattan Country Club also in Los Angeles, prosecutors said.

He has had direct contact with children since 2004, and prosecutors are asking anyone who may have been a victim to contact Supervising District Attorney Investigator Lou Gutierrez at (714) 664-3943, according to the release.

Baldogo’s charges include a sentencing enhancement for substantial sexual contact with a child.

He faces lifetime sex offender registration and a maximum of 22 years in state prison if he is convicted.

Prosecutors said he is in custody on $1 million bail and due in court on May 31.
